‘Step forward’ – Frank Lampard reacts to first win since returning as Chelsea boss

Frank Lampard described Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Bournemouth on Saturday as a “step forward” as the Blues recorded their first win since the former Everton manager replaced Graham Potter.

Goals from Conor Gallagher, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix gave Chelsea their first win since the 3-1 win against Leicester in March.

The Blues moved above Crystal Palace and back into 11th in the Premier League.

“It feels good,” Lampard told Chelsea’s YouTube channel of collecting the three points.

“We had to fight for the win, but we also dominated a lot of the game. With the season it has been, any win or sign of progression feels good.

“You have to work for it – the lads did today. The connection with the fans – I want to say thanks to them. It’s nice to see the connection at the end of the game – it’s important.

“The fans always react when the players put in a shift, so it’s important they play the right way and do the basics of the game.

“It was a nice, small, positive step forward.”

Gallagher, who spent last season with Palace on loan, opened the scoring in the ninth minute when he arrived into the box to plant Trevoh Chalobah’s cross past Neto.

“I have known Conor a long time,” added Lampard.

“He’s a great lad. A really talented boy with a knack for scoring goals from midfield. Conor works on that natural instinct all the time.

“I’m delighted for him. He loves this club and he’s a credit to himself every day.”
