Stevenage midfielder to make AFC Wimbledon return as transfer confirmed

AFC Wimbledon have announced their first signing of the summer with Jake Reeves set for a second spell with the League Two outfit.

The midfielder, 29, will sign a two-year deal with the Dons once his Stevenage contract expires on July 1.

Lewisham-born Reeves told the club’s official website: “I will aim to bring experience, energy, and know-how – hopefully we can achieve something. I played about 50 games last season and about the same the season before, so I’m all good fitness wise.

“We maybe need to get other lads in who have got a bit of experience and we obviously struggled with injuries last season, which was unfortunate so hopefully we can rectify that next season.

“It is a tough league with relentless games all of the time and you need a mixture of everything to do well: hunger, desire, experience, energy, and composure. It is a difficult league, but one I feel we can have a decent stab at. When I was at Stevenage we were favourites to get relegated and we ended up finishing second.”

Reeves was part of the AFC Wimbledon side which won promotion to League One via the play-offs.

He moved for an undisclosed sum to Bradford City in the summer of 2017.

Craig Cope, head of football operations at Wimbledon, said: “Jake is a player who we identified really early and collectively as a recruitment team we’ve worked hard to get this signing over the line.

“As management staff, we are long standing admirers of Jake as a player. Though we’re fully aware of his history with Wimbledon, the main reason for bringing him back is what he will offer on and off the pitch, especially as he’s a multiple promotion winner.”
