Stoke City v Charlton Athletic team news: David Davis makes debut as one of two changes

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

David Davis makes his Charlton debut as one of two changes for the trip to Stoke City.

The Birmingham loanee comes straight into the midfield for the relegation six-pointer at the bet365 Stadium – with Ben Purrington also returning to the starting 11.

Naby Sarr and Alfie Doughty drop to the bench as Lee Bowyer opts for a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

Purrington will slot in at left-back, with Adam Matthews on the opposite side as the duo flank the centre-half pairing of Jason Pearce and Tom Lockyer.

Davis will operate in the centre of the midfield alongside Josh Cullen, with Darren Pratley at the base of the diamond and Jonny Williams playing off the front two of Lyle Taylor and Andre Green.

Man City loanee Matt Smith makes his first appearance amongst the substitutes.

Aidan McGeady, who joined on a temporary switch from Sunderland, has been suffering with illness this week and misses out completely.

Charlton: Phillips, Matthews, Lockyer, Pearce, Purrington, Pratley, Davis, Cullen, Williams, Taylor, Green. Subs: Amos, Smith, Sarr, Hemed, Field, Oztumer, Doughty.
