Streatham miss out on securing NIHL 1 South title – play-off quarter-final up next
Streatham missed out on a fifth consecutive NIHL 1 South title despite finishing their regulation season without conceding a goal in 120 minutes.
The South London club won 9-0 at Cardiff on Saturday before a 6-0 home victory against Solent Devils.
But Streatham finished one point behind Slough Jets.
RedHawks now face a two-legged quarter-final play-off against Swindon Wildcats. The first match is at home tomorrow (5.30pm face off) with the reverse taking place on Sunday.
The victor will face either Chelmsford or Romford the following weekend.
JJ Pitchley, Jared Lane, Ethan Lane, Ryan Watt, Roman Cathcart, Aidan Doughty, Luke Brittle and Roman Cathcart scored against Cardiff.
Harvey Stead, Ben Paynter, Danny Ingoldsby (two), Brendan Baird and Brittle were on target to comfortably see off the Devils.
Streatham head coach Paynter said: “We were clinical when we needed to be against Solent. We moved the puck well.
“This weekend we’ve got one plan which is to go in and win two games of hockey, simple as that.”
