Streatham’s Scott Bailey wants to sting Bees this weekend
Streatham forward Scott Bailey is aiming to help his team keep their momentum up in the weekend fixture against Bracknell Bees.
The RedHawks moved up to second place in National League South thanks to a two-point weekend last time out. With the Bees in top spot, the game is set to be a test for both their credentials.
“We had a good win against the Bees last time we played each other,” said Bailey.
“They are on top spot and obviously have a lot of quality but we’ve shown so far this season we can compete with anyone.
“The crowds have been building each weekend and we are the form team in the league at the moment.”
Streatham enjoyed mixed results last weekend, taking two points from a possible four in the double header against Swindon Wildcats.
The South Londoners stunned a packed Link Centre in Swindon on Saturday as an Alex Roberts brace and goals from Jacob Ranson and Bailey secured a 4-1 victory.
Bailey scored again on Sunday to add to two goals from Ryan Webb and an effort from Adam Carr, but it was not enough to avoid a 7-4 reverse against a Swindon side looking for revenge.
Bailey reckons that two points was a satisfactory return against a side tipped as title favourites over the summer and boasting one of the largest budgets in the league.
“Swindon perform strongly in front of their own rink so it was pleasing to make a statement. The whole team put in a good shift, everyone played well – it just clicked. We were getting a lot of shots off and when that happens you always have a chance.
“Sunday didn’t bring us back to earth. We knew it wasn’t our best game. Saturday made us realise the standard we can play to.
“I’m really enjoying it so far. We have a great bunch of guys and it helps when everyone on the team gets on and makes coming to the rink enjoyable. The staff members all gel well with the boys. Fingers crossed our strong start continues.”
Streatham host Bracknell on Saturday evening at the Streatham Arena (5.30pm).
