Sunny Edwards picks up two belts as he drops to flyweight – Streatham’s Chris Bourke a wide points winner on same show

Sunny Edwards notched up victory number 13 as he won a wide unanimous points decision over Rosendo Hugo Guarneros to claim two vacant belts.

The 23-year-old from Croydon had been campaigning at super-flyweight but dropped a division to pick up the IBF international belt as well as the WBO inter-continental strap.

Edwards won every single round on Pawel Kardyni’s card while judges Terry O’Connor and Manuel Oliver Palomo marked him a 99-91 victor.

The unbeaten South Londoner hurt the knuckles on his right hand after landing a punch in the latter stages of the contest at Bethnal Green’s York Hall.

“I wish my hand didn’t go in the seventh or eighth round because I was starting to turn the screw,” Edwards told iFL TV. “Then it was about being safe off the jab and bringing the belts home. It shouldn’t keep me out for any time at all.

“As far as the three Mexicans go [faced] he was the easiest one. I was in cruise control, I never got out of first gear.

“I want to stay busy. I’ve still got a lot to learn.

“That was my fifth fight in 11 months and my fifth 10-rounder.”

Streatham super-bantamweight Chris Bourke did not drop a round as he won 60-54 against Jose Hernandez on the same show.

The 24-year-old moves to 5-0 but went the distance for the first time.
