Swansea boss gives his reaction to young striker’s red card at Millwall

Swansea boss Graham Potter had no complaints over Courtney Baker-Richardson’s early red card in today’s 2-1 win at Millwall.

The youngster was making his Championship debut but saw red for a reckless tackle on James Meredith with just five minutes on the clock.

But the Welsh side, relegated from the Premier League last season, stunned the Lions as Kyle Naughton and Oli McBurnie scored in the closing stages to overturn the host’s lead which came from Murray Wallace.

Potter said: “When I saw it live it is one of them that you know you’re in trouble. There is no malice from Courtney’s perspective. It’s his debut and he’s excited. 

“He’s gone to challenge and it is not a good challenge. I understand why it has been given.

“When you look at the game it it’s entirety. Playing with 10 men for 90-odd minutes, going a goal down, not caving in at that point – sticking with it – we offered a threat, as much as you can.

“We had real courage. The players were amazing and the supporters behind the goal were just as good. Very, very proud to be the coach of Swansea City today. We were magnificent.

“In fairness, their goal is a bit disappointing. It’s a set-play and apart from that I didn’t think they created much. There was pressure and balls in the box you have to deal with but we defended quite well.

“I almost forgot second half that we were down to 10 men.
