Swansea winger set to return for Millwall match after deadline-day near-miss move to Leeds United
Daniel James could be set for a return to Swansea’s squad for the visit of Millwall tomorrow – his first involvement since seeing a deadline day switch to Leeds United collapse.
The 21-year-old winger was at Elland Road waiting for the formalities to be completed before the 11pm deadline.
James did not feature for the Swans in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Bristol City. He said: “We had the conversation before the game and we agreed it was right for me not to play the game on Saturday.
“It was not that my head would not have been in the game, my head is here. But with going back and forth I did not feel I had prepared myself right and the last thing I wanted was to have a bad game and people think my head wasn’t in it.”
Swansea are 13th in the Championship and chairman Huw Jenkins stepped down at the weekend.
The 55-year-old took on the role in 2002 and oversaw the Welsh outfit climbing from League Two to the Premier League.
There were calls for Jenkins to go after relegation last season, with criticism over the way American pair Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan have run the club.
Swansea’s late activity in the January window saw three outgoing loans completed – striker Wilfried Bony went to Qatar-based Al-Arabi, winger Jefferson Montero was picked up by West Brom and Tom Carroll make a temporary switch to Aston Villa.
Joe Rodon (broken foot) is out and captain Leroy Fer (hamstring) is likely to miss out. Wayne Routledge (calf) could be back available.
