Swindon boss unhappy at lack of game know-how in 2-2 draw at Charlton

Swindon Town manager John Sheridan bemoaned a lack of “game know-how” in yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Charlton.

The visitors led 2-0 at the break with Hallam Hope and Matty Palmer on target.

But Chuks Aneke and Andrew Shinnie responded for the hosts – the latter in the 90th minute.

Sheridan said: “I’m actually angry and annoyed.

“I’m pleased to come away with something from a tough place. But after going 2-0 up – we were in control of the game and deservedly scored two good goals before half-time – I’m disappointed to only come away with a point.

“We can’t keep doing it – having to score two or three goals to win games. We could’ve even lost it there when the lad has gone through.

“It’s a bit of game know-how. How to deal with the game and get it over the line by making the right decisions. Unfortunately we’re short on making the right decisions.

“When you’re 2-0 up we should be coming away with three points.

“We knew on the counter-attack we could cause them problems. I played DJ [Diallang Jaiyesimi] down the middle. They were two good goals on our part.

“We should manage the game better in the second half. I’m sick of shouting from the sidelines. The only voice you can hear is my voice unfortunately. You’re trying to put people in positions – we need to do it better as a team. I’m not here to have a go, because the performance in the first half was very good.

“They [Charlton] have got a good squad. They are bringing in players left, right and centre. They are one of the favourites to go up.

“We just showed our naivety. When we come under pressure we need to stick together and keep our shape. We need to be commanding, be vocal and get a grip of each other.”
