Tennis: Catford Wanderers mixed first team defeat David Lloyd (Sidcup)

Catford Wanderers’ mixed first team were good value for their home victory over David Lloyd (Sidcup ) at the weekend, writes Denis Costelloe.

This North Kent Division B fixture was played under the new rules where all matches are two sets only with no tie-breaker third set decider.

Andrew Ofori and Stephanie James had a disastrous opening set against the visitors Gary Ash and Sarah Coates, losing 0-6 only to go down 1-5 in the tie-break second set.  They rallied to take the second set 7-6 and draw the game.

They had a more comfortable second match against Ben Hession and Caroline Burton, winning 6-3 6-4.

Will Liney and Kathy Aldridge were Wanderers’ most successful pair, defeating Ash and Coates 6-3 6-0 and seeing off the visitors’ Trevor Pearce and Sue Hobbs 6-0 6-1.

Rob Dawbarn and Donna Gabriel shared the spoils one set each with Burton and Hession and won 6-3 6-3 over Pearce and Hobbs.
