‘That’s where we are’ – Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson asked for Michael Olise injury update

Roy Hodgson has been asked for an update on Michael Olise’s injury as the Crystal Palace winger steps up his recovery from hamstring surgery.

Olise suffered a grade three tear in France’s U21 European Championship win over Norway in June.

The 21-year-old was forced to have surgery on his hamstring when he returned to Selhurst Park.

He shunned interest from Chelsea in the summer and signed a new deal with the Eagles.

However, it is unclear when the former Reading playmaker will be available for selection this season.

“It’s going as the medical people told me that it probably would go,” said Hodgson, 76, ahead of Palace’s trip to Aston Villa.

“When he came back from France with that very serious injury and had to go under the knife and be operated on, I was given a pretty clear idea of what we had to look at.

“That’s where we are and it’s moving along those lines.”

Olise recorded six assists in 10 games under Hodgson after the former England and Liverpool boss replaced Patrick Vieira.

He became the first-ever Palace player to record double digits for assists in an individual Premier League season after the 11 he notched up in the last campaign.

“He’s such a wonderful talent,” added Hodgson.

“For someone who loves football, it’s a joy to see him play – through matches and even on the training field.

“It’s a pleasure to watch him play. I will be very happy when he comes back.

“He will make us stronger as a squad and he will give us some enjoyment. He will give the people who come and watch us play, the spectators, a lot of enjoyment too.

“That is what those quality players do for you.”
