‘The future of Crystal Palace’ – Charlton loanee gets lavish backing from Eagles team-mate

Reece Hannam has described Jesurun Rak-Sakyi as the future of Crystal Palace.

Left-back Hannam, 21, is out on loan with National League side Bromley this season and scored his first goal in professional football last weekend, as Andy Woodman’s side claimed all three points in their 1-0 win over Aldershot Town.

Rak-Sakyi has also departed Selhurst Park for the season, joining Ben Garner’s Charlton Athletic on loan for the League One campaign.

The 19-year-old winger, who penned a five-year extension with Patrick Vieira’s side before heading out on loan to the Valley, scored on his Charlton debut – a 5-1 win against Plymouth Argyle.

Rak-Sakyi and Hannam were both named in Vieira’s first competitive matchday squad as Crystal Palace manager, with the duo named on the bench for the 3-0 loss at Chelsea last season.

“He’s fantastic,” Hannam told the South London Press of Southwark-born Rak-Sakyi. “He’s definitely a future star in the game, and I think that the contract that Crystal Palace have just handed him exemplifies that – it shows their trust and belief in him.

“He will be the future of Crystal Palace.”

Hannam was a key figure in Shaun Derry’s U23 side which won promotion via the play-offs to the Premier League 2 Division 1. He made 18 appearances during the campaign and picked up the U23 Player of the Season award for his contributions.

“It was so talented, but also it was just a great group of boys,” said Hannam. “We were so together that season, hence why we got the position that we did and managed to get promotion.

“We were playing our best football that season, in terms of scoring goals and defending. I just felt as though everything we right that season.

“We had the talented players that we needed to score goals, and the defenders were great.

“Jake O’Brien came in, and he was great at the back. Then going forward we had the likes of Jes and David Omilabu, who were both scoring goals.”
