‘The most quality he has shown’ – Millwall midfield duo both earn praise from boss after 2-0 win over Huddersfield

Gary Rowett was impressed with the performances of George Saville and Billy Mitchell in Millwall’s 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town at The Den on Wednesday evening.

The Terriers midfield three of Duane Holmes, Lewis O’Brien and Jonathan Hogg seemed to have the upper hand in the first 10 minutes, but the Lions manager felt that Saville and Mitchell adapted to control the game after that.

Rowett told the South London Press: “They did really well because if you look at any team that has one striker and two attacking midfielders dropping deep around the front then in terms of possession, in terms of build up, they are always going to cause you a little bit of a problem.

“The key becomes do they score and do they get loads of chances from it? Possession is not really that much of a concern if we hold our shape and we’re disciplined in the way we do it.

“Billy Mitchell and George Saville were excellent. It’s not always easy to make the right decisions when to jump out and when to stay in your shape.

“The game is so quick and the game becomes such an instant decision of whether you’ve got to go – and if you get it wrong then you open space up.
But they did it really well, they showed great energy. But Saville, in particular, that was the most quality he’s shown.

“He came out with the ball on a number of occasions, he just stepped out, showed that little bit of experience and composure that he’s got.”
