‘The result is really unfair’ – Fulham boss disappointed with draw at Everton
Fulham head coach Marco Silva believed Fulham’s 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday was not a fair result, writes Edmund Brack.
The west Londoners took the lead midway through the second half via Alex Iwobi’s 61st-minute strike.
Silva’s side had 14 shots and the majority of possession – with Raul Jimenez and Adam Traore both testing Jordan Pickford – but Beto turned Ashley Young’s cross back along the face of goal and beyond Bernd Leno in the 93rd minute to salvage a point for the hosts.
“It’s so tough for us and players in the dressing room,” Silva told BBC’s Match of the Day.
“We didn’t give them any chances to press high – we frustrated their press. We controlled the game in our offensive half.
“We created clear chances to score in the first. The result is really unfair because we should have scored one or two more goals.
“We had one or two chances to score again. These games are always tough when you are so much better than the opposition.
“We should have scored the second goal to completely kill their hopes. We didn’t.
“Unfortunately for us, there was a moment when we should have done much better to defend the ball in the box.
“The players are down right now, but they should be proud of the way we played. The points will come for us by being more clinical and a little bit more quality in the attack.
“We should have scored more because we created enough.
“When I say we are down, it is because football wasn’t fair this evening.”
Defender Joachim Andersen is available for Monday evening’s derby against Brentford at Craven Cottage after serving a one-match ban.
The Danish centre-back was dismissed for denying Ollie Watkins a clear scoring opportunity in a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa earlier this month.
Fulham lost 3-0 in the same fixture last season with Bryan Mbuemo scoring twice and Yoane Wissa also on target.
