‘They had underachieved’ – Peterborough United boss makes Charlton Athletic claim

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson believes that Charlton Athletic had been underachieving before Dean Holden took over as manager.

The former Bristol City man Holden replaced Ben Garner after the ex-Bristol Rovers boss was sacked following the 1-0 defeat to Cheltenham Town in early December.

Charlton have won their last three outings in League One and sit just six points off the play-off places.

Holden’s first match in charge was a 1-1 draw with tomorrow’s opponents.

Charlton are four points behind Ferguson’s Peterborough side but have played two more matches in League One.

“He’s gone in there, Dean, and done well,” said Ferguson.

“He has been a coach at Stoke for a while – he was ready to go into a management job.

“He has started off very well. To me, it’s not a surprise – I think they had underachieved.

“They have got real quality in their team and I fully expected them to have some sort of run sooner or later. They’re on a good run at the moment.

“They have found a formula of how they want to play, and it’s working for them.

“They have brought in Bonne, who will definitely cope with this level. He’s probably a Championship player coming in. [Miles] Leaburn is a very good young player that they have got – he’s a real handful.

“I have seen them a few times – they have got some real quality. I think it’s going to be a good game but a tough one.”
