‘They will be confident’ – Grimsby boss looks ahead to Wimbledon clash
Grimsby boss Paul Hurst is predicting a “confident” AFC Wimbledon side will turn up at Blundell Park for tomorrow’s League Two opening clash.
The Dons head to Grimsby unbeaten during pre-season after picking up wins against Reading, Met Police, Portsmouth and Wealdstone.
Johnnie Jackson has conducted a squad overhaul during the summer, with 10 new players coming in and senior figures such as Will Nightingale and Alex Woodyard departing.
Wimbledon, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Mariners on the final day of the last campaign, finished 21st in League Two last season.
“They have had an excellent pre-season,” Hurst told Grismby’s YouTube channel.
“They’re unbeaten, so they will be confident coming up to us.
“But it’s the first day – nothing is decided.
“I’ll be the same as every other manager across the leagues, you want to get off to a winning start.
“But you’ll know that Johnnie and his club will be thinking the exact same.”
