Tom Lockyer still training with Charlton Athletic – as relegation release option explained

Tom Lockyer could still have a future at Charlton Athletic – with the activation of his relegation release clause only opening a month’s window for him to assess his options.

The Wales international has been training with the Addicks at their training camp in the Midlands this week.

And Lockyer is still contracted to the South London club until the summer of 2021.

But the option to leave on a free transfer after Charlton lost their Championship status effectively gives him time to weigh up where is best for his future.

The South London Press understands that Lockyer had to trigger that clause to allow him to leave for nothing.

Lockyer is able to decide to stick with the Addicks and see out the remainder of his terms, which run until June of next year.

The fact that he has travelled with Lee Bowyer’s squad for their spell in the Midlands is a positive sign that the former Bristol Rovers captain could opt to stay with the SE7 outfit.
