Tottenham loanee not being ruled out of starting Millwall’s league game at Preston North End

Millwall head coach Joe Edwards reckons Japhet Tanganga will not take long to be ready to start matches after the Tottenham loanee made his debut in yesterday’s 2-0 loss at QPR.

The 24-year-old centre-back signed for the Lions on Thursday.

Tanganga came on in the 68th minute at Loftus Road, replacing Brooke Norton-Cuffy, gaining his first competitive minutes since Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Manchester United in late April.

“I wouldn’t put an exact date on it,” said Edwards, when asked when Tanganga will be in a position to be in the team from the word go. “It could be next week. It was a bit of a whirlwind this week. Japh only had his first sessions with us Thursday and Friday – the closer you get to the game they are quite light days where we weren’t able to expose him to too much.

“Now with a full week until Preston it will be about sitting with him and getting a couple of good loading days into him. If we get to the point at the end of the week where he is capable of starting then I definitely wouldn’t rule that out.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a long process to get him to the point where he starts a game.”
