Troy Parrott looks set to play a part in Millwall’s Championship clash against Cardiff City
Troy Parrott looks set to be back in Millwall’s squad for Saturday’s home game against Cardiff City – with the striker’s minutes carefully managed by the Republic of Ireland over the international break.
The 18-year-old has played just 45 minutes of competitive football since joining on loan from Tottenham before the campaign started due to injuries to his calf and ankle.
But Parrott resumed training just before the Championship shut down for international matches.
He got 45 minutes for Ireland’s U21s and then was promoted to the senior squad for their 0-0 draw with Bulgaria last night, only coming on for the closing stages.
“If he comes back fit then he’ll be involved,” said Millwall manager Gary Rowett. “The decision moving forward is whether we start him or use him off the bench.
“It’s like anything, if you have got someone you feel can score goals and you feel you’re at a point where it isn’t a risk then he’s going to start a game for us.
“That’s why he has been brought in – to play. And he’s been brought in to make a bit of a difference. We know he’s only young but we feel he’s got enough quality.”
