‘Uncomfortable and relentless’ – Wigan boss outlines gameplan for Millwall

Wigan Athletic manager Shaun Maloney wants to make Saturday’s clash at the DW Stadium ‘uncomfortable’ for Millwall.

The Latics, who picked up a win against Stoke in midweek to stave off relegation, have to win against Gary Rowett’s side, or their place in League One will be confirmed for next season.

Millwall head to bottom-of-the-table Wigan looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City on Tuesday evening.

The Lions are fifth in the Championship and two points clear of seventh-placed West Brom.

“They’re a good team, and they have some big threats from set plays and final third,” said Maloney, speaking to Wigan’s YouTube channel.

“I know Oliver Burke very well – he’s a really dynamic and quick one-against-one player. We’re going to have to defend that.

“Millwall have had a brilliant season – they’re very resilient. They have had defeats before, but we have to bring a level which makes the game very, very uncomfortable, and it has to be relentless.

“We have to be confident but realise we start from zero. We’re not going to worry about tactics or anything technical, the first mantra has to be that we win the fight.”
