Update on Andersen, McArthur and Ferguson – Palace boss delivers injury news ahead of Newcastle
Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has provided an injury update ahead of tomorrow evening’s clash against Newcastle United at Selhurst Park.
The Eagles are playing their third game in the space of seven days after a week which has seen them lose 1-0 at Chelsea and pick up a late point at home to Manchester United.
Joachim Andersen is set to miss up to a month of football after picking up a calf injury in the defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The Frenchman made a number of changes against Erik ten Hag’s United, with Chris Richards, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Will Hughes and Odsonne Edouard all coming into the starting line-up.
Palace picked up a point away to Eddie Howe’s side earlier in the season, with the Eagles grinding out a 0-0 draw.
“Joachim Andersen is not going to be involved in the game tomorrow – it will be a couple of weeks,” said Vieira.
“We just have to wait for him to come back.”
Nathan Ferguson and James McArthur have both been absent for the entire season through injury.
“Nathan [Ferguson] started training with the team,” added Vieira.
“For Macca [James McArthur], it will be next week until he can get a little bit more involved. For both players, we are still a couple of weeks away before thinking about them getting involved.”
Newcastle are fourth in the Premier League and are five points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
“It will be a really good challenge,” added Vieira.
“I strongly believe that with the way they perform, there is no reason why they can’t believe in themselves to be part of the teams who have a chance [of winning the league].”
