‘Very clear’ – Crystal Palace boss asked about Vicente Guaita’s situation as transfer deadline day looms

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson says Vicente Guaita has made it “very clear” that he does not want to play for the club.

Spanish goalkeeper Guaita has been absent since the start of pre-season after losing his starting spot to Sam Johnstone at the end of the last campaign.

The 36-year-old joined the Eagles from Getafe on a free transfer in 2019 and has made 154 appearances at Selhurst Park.

Guaita has been training at a different time than the rest of the first-team squad.

The summer transfer window closes next Friday at 11pm.

When asked if there had been any change to the stopper’s situation, Hodgson said: “Not that I’m aware of.

“The best person to ask would be Steve Parish or Doug Freedman. They are the two dealing with the situation.

“All I know is that he doesn’t want to play – he’s told me that very clearly.

“As a result, he’s not really a part of my group at the moment

“Whether that means he will never be again? I don’t know.”
