Palace boss Vieira confirms Coventry loan spell for Tayo Adaramola cut short

Patrick Vieira has confirmed Tayo Adaramola has been recalled by Crystal Palace from his season-long loan at Coventry City – and has urged the young full-back to learn from the experience.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international joined the Sky Blues at the start of the season but failed to make any of Mark Robins’ matchday squads in the Championship.

Adaramola did make one professional start for Coventry, playing 61 minutes in the 4-1 loss to Bristol City in the first round of the EFL Cup.

The academy graduate made two appearances last season for Vieira’s first team, coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 win against Hartlepool in the FA Cup, followed up by making his first Palace start in the fifth round win against Stoke City.

“Tayo is back,” explained Vieira ahead of the trip to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

“He wasn’t getting the first-team games and we called him back. It will be better for him to be with us, training around the first team and giving us options on that left-hand side.

“He [will provide] competition, but I believe every experience is a good experience.

“It will be important for him to learn and to try to understand why it didn’t work over there and to keep pushing on what he is missing to make the next step.

“It’s our responsibility to keep working with him and make him get his confidence back and believe in himself to try and push him. We believe in him and will keep working with him.”

Nathan Ferguson, who has had his time with the club plagued by injuries and has only made one first team since joining from West Brom in 2020, suffered another setback for the start of the season – picking up a foot injury.

James McArthur has also yet to feature this season after suffering a groin injury during pre-season.

Asked for an update on the duo, Vieira said: “Still a long way [from being back].

“Both of them have not started working on the field, so there is still a long way to go for both of them.

“It’s difficult to give a period.”
