‘Wasteful’ – Dons boss delivers verdict after defeat at Leyton Orient

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson said his side were wasteful in their 1-0 defeat at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

The Dons had 11 shots during the 90 minutes but only registered two of those attempts on target.

Wimbledon’s best chance came in the 54th minute through Ethan Chislett, who was left one-on-one with Lawrence Vigouroux but failed to hit the target from close range.

Charlton loanee Diallang Jaiyesimi also had an effort cleared off the line in the second half as the Dons chased an equaliser.

George Moncure wrapped up all three points nine minutes later after he danced his way past the Wimbledon defence and slotted a shot beyond Nik Tzanev.

“I thought we competed really well,” said Jackson.

“A top team who are sitting top of the league – I thought we went toe-to-toe with them.

“We had the better chances in the game and the more clear-cut chances.

“We should have come away with something. A little bit of quality for their goal has been the difference.

“We were wasteful in the moments we did have.”

The Dons won the reverse fixture 2-0 at Plough Lane back in November.

Wimbledon could have closed the gap to the League Two play-off places if they picked up all three points at Brisbane Road.

Jackson’s side are still three points off the top seven but dropped down to 12th in the table.

“It’s been two good games with them,” added the Dons boss.

“We comfortably beat them at home. Today, we were a match for them. It’s just not gone our way today for whatever reason.

“We have to accept it – they’re a good team.

“On paper, we’re expected to come here and lose, but we never felt like that. We came here and wanted to win and compete – we showed that we can.”
