Watts a winner first time out at Donington Park

Woolwich motorcycle racer Gavin Watts completed a successful debut meeting at Donington Park in Derby back in April, picking up a win and three podiums along the way.

Having burst onto the UK racing scene at the beginning of 2021, it is safe to say he has been making a big impression competing in the No Limits Racing Championship, not only in the solo sprint racing series but in the National Endurance Championship as well.

Watts is racing under the Army Motorcycle Road Race Team umbrella who scouted him over the off season to join the team as a rookie.

He was to race with Michael Huel and Simon King in the 3 hour long endurance race around the 1.979 mile Donington circuit. The three of them formed a strong bond from the outset therefore putting Watts at ease for what was to be a long weekend ahead with a total of 5 races.

His nerves started to show but once he was aboard the Yamaha R1 couple with great support from the team he soon got into the swing of the procedures and learnt the track well.

It did not deter him in the slightest as the team came first in the rookie class endurance and all his sprint races were within the top ten with three of them seeing him step on to the podium with a best of second on his maiden ride.

Watts said after the race: “I have looked forward to racing which is a whole new experience for me. I never expected to get the warm welcome that I have from the series organisers and the team. It is a big challenge to take on sprints and endurance in one season but I think it is something I am definitely capable of. I am now looking forward to the next round at Cadwell Park, and if anyone would like to sponsor and be part of my racing journey please get in touch, Gavwatts@hotmail.co.uk
