‘We could blame ourselves’ – Crystal Palace boss Glasner delivers verdict on Wolves draw
Oliver Glasner thought his Crystal Palace side should have capitalised when being 1-0 up against Wolves on Saturday – but was proud that they came from behind to secure a point in their 2-2 draw at Molineux
The Eagles should have gone in at half-time 1-0 up when Marc Guehi headed back across goal for Trevoh Chalobah.
But the Chelsea loanee from just in front of Jose Sa’s goal miskicked the ball and saw it bounce behind him.
Jean-Philippe Mateta followed up but could only fire his effort into the path of Chalobah, which saw the goal-bound shot deflect away for a goal kick.
Chalobah atoned for his early miss and put Palace ahead in the 60th minute when he collected the ball at the back post from a free-kick routine and slammed his effort into the back of the net.
Glasner’s side had chances to extend their lead but were pegged back when Matheus Cunha beat Chalobah to a ball over the top and played through Jorgen Strand Larsen.
The Wolves striker kept his composure and slotted the ball between the legs of Dean Henderson to level the game.
Joao Gomes quickly put the hosts ahead five minutes later when Eddie Nketiah lost possession and the Brazilian midfielder finished off a move inside the box.
Palace drew level in the 77th minute when Kamada’s corner was headed on by Daniel Munoz and Marc Guehi arrived at the back post to equalise and secure a point.
The Eagles have picked up four points in their last two Premier League games and also booked their place in the last eight of the EFL Cup this week.
“I’m very proud of the performance today,” said Glasner.
“It was our third game in six days with a very tight squad – we played to win the game.
“The only thing we could blame ourselves on is that we couldn’t decide the game when we had the chance.
“We should have taken the lead in the first half. We took the lead and then we had two or three big chances.
“We had the momentum and the home crowd was booing after our chances. We should have done better.
“Every team in the Premier League is able to score a goal – all of a sudden, Wolves were 2-1 up.
“A big respect to the players for the reaction – they were tired. What makes me even more proud is that we went for the win at the end of the game.
“I thought we were closer to winning it.”
