‘We did the right things at the right moments – Sheffield Wednesday boss on 2-0 win at Millwall

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl praised his side’s performance in their 2-0 win at Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls scored two first-half goals to secure a vital win in their battle against relegation.

Wednesday are just four points behind Millwall, who have taken one point from a possible 21.

Rohl said: “Coming here, it’s not easy. I looked back on the game against Ipswich and Millwall were very strong in the first 15 minutes.

“Today was a clear message – win the duels and win the second balls. I looked at what we could do to win here, and my decision was to go to a back five and have two number 10s in the pocket beside the number sixes. They were the key to winning the second balls. The two goals we scored were exactly what we wanted. To find the two number 10’s and then speed up the game.”

Wednesday defended superbly in the second half to prevent Millwall from forming any kind of comeback.

Rohl said: “It was a little bit of adult football today.

“The last few weeks we spoke about great performance and being entertaining, but it means nothing without results. We did well as a team. We showed as a team what we have to do well in our situation, and that was the key point. The challenge today was to win the second ball, especially at the beginning of the game.

“In the second half, it was not nice football – but we did the right things in the right moments. The decision-making was much better today, which was the key here.”
