‘We have got the quality’ – Millwall matchwinner ‘buzzing’ after spectacular finish against Leicester

Ryan Longman has described his winning goal for Millwall against Leicester City in midweek as “special”.

The Hull loanee’s searing second-half strike from the edge of the box downed the Foxes in SE16.

“I’ve scored a few good goals in my career but the moment is special – going off the back of a disappointing week against two teams that we should have picked up points from,” Longman told the South London Press.

“I’m really happy with the result and buzzing at the goal. I knew it was going in as soon as it left my foot. I didn’t know it would come off the crossbar, that makes me look better.

“As a team we need to believe in ourselves. We have got this quality – we have just beaten a former Premier League side. They are a top side.

“It’s football. It’s why we love the game. We’d have loved to have taken six points from Huddersfield and Rotherham but we didn’t. We had to show a reaction on Tuesday. The fans came with great energy and that is what we needed. They were massive for us.”

Longman was quick to praise Billy Mitchell for his late goal-line clearance to deny Kelechi Iheanacho.

“Incredible,” said the former Brighton youngster. “If he doesn’t do that it is 1-1. Okay, I’d have scored a good goal – but we’d have only taken a point.

“For him to get the assist and also do that at the end is incredible. He is a great lad and a great player.”
