‘We need to be angry when we don’t win’ – Cifuentes calls on QPR players to respond after Plymouth disappointment

QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes wants his side to never feel satisfied with anything less than all three points as he tries to lead them clear of relegation danger.

The Spaniard saw a three-game winning run come to an end in midweek when Rangers were held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man Plymouth Argyle at Loftus Road.

The west London side could still move out of the Championship relegation zone with a positive result against fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, but Cifuentes is more focused on long-term success.

“The frustration in the dressing room can help on Saturday,” he said when reflecting on the Plymouth stalemate.

“We need to be angry when we don’t win. We need to push as much as we can.

“The challenge for all of the teams in the world is to have the capacity to keep being ambitious and humble, and understand what you achieved yesterday is yesterday, today is what matters.

“Hopefully that can help in a difficult game on Saturday. Since the change of coach Sheffield Wednesday are really improving.”

The Owls saw a three-game unbeaten run come to an end in their 3-1 defeat to Norwich City on Wednesday, leaving them 23rd in the second-tier standings – seven points below QPR.

After going 13 matches without a win at the start of the season, Wednesday have started to pick up points since appointing former Southampton assistant coach Danny Rohl as manager.

Cifuentes confirmed there were no fitness issues surrounding Kenneth Paal and Sam Field after both were substituted at half-time against Plymouth, although Ziyad Larkeche is a doubt for the game at Hillsborough after he was forced off with a head injury.
