“We need to start winning football matches” – Fulham boss Parker knows 11-game wait is not good enough

Scott Parker admitted his Fulham side need to “start winning football matches” as their winless run in the league stretched to 11 games following tonight’s 2-0 defeat against Leicester City at Craven Cottage.

The Whites were left with a mountain to climb after first-half goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and James Justin. Fulham didn’t really get going in the second half despite making changes.

“They’re a very good team with top players,” assessed the Fulham manager.

“We weren’t able to take our moments. Not with shots, but just the final little details. I thought we created some good overload moments very, very well. But yeah, we fell a little bit short tonight. There was a good performance in terms of certain aspects of our game.

“We understand what we need to do, which is to start winning football matches. We’re at a stage in the season where there is one clear objective and that’s to win games. We’ve fallen short against a very good side tonight and we now move on to the weekend.

“I felt for large parts of the game we had a real control about us and played some good stuff without really causing them too many problems. But I see a team in my team that can win football matches. Maybe people will say I’m a little bit mad as we’ve only won twice all year. But there’s 17 games left of this season, there’s still a lot of football to be played. We’ve seen in a short space of time what a couple of results can do. Am I looking at a team here who are wilting away to a slow death? Not at all. I see a team that is fully committed to understanding what the job is in hand. But we’re at a point now where we need to win games, so let’s try and do that.

“If we want to give ourselves a fighting chance of staying in this division then that’s what we need to do. This team has progressed and moved forward extremely well. We’ve gone from a team at the start of this season who people were writing off. We’ve managed to fix certain problems, but when you’re a newly-promoted team you often find the progression of the team is the next thing that you’re working on. That’s what we’re doing there.

“They’re a great bunch of lads here that are working their hardest in this division. We can’t let defeats derail us at this moment. To give ourselves a chance we need to keep performing.”
