‘Weak and unacceptable’ – Danny Mills tears into Dulwich Hamlet team after 3-1 loss at Tonbridge Angels

Danny Mills slammed Dulwich Hamlet display after a 3-1 loss to Tonbridge Angels on Saturday left them in the National League South relegation zone.

The striker had cancelled out TQ Addy’s opener shortly after the half-hour mark at Longmead Stadium. But Louis Collins and Lewis Gard were both on target in the second period.

The South Londoners have lost four on the spin and host rock bottom Weymouth on Saturday.

Mills told Dulwich Hamlet’s YouTube channel: “I want to apologise to the travelling fans – that performance was nowhere near the standard required to play for this football club.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play here for more than three years now, and I know what the standard is – and that’s not it. From the first minute we weren’t at it. We were poor all over the pitch.

“We go 1-0 down and start to actually play a bit, we get the goal and come in at half-time disappointed and raging with ourselves, but 1-1 and still in the game.

“We said that everyone needs to put another 60 to 70 per cent in or the outcome is what happened. We were just weak, we weren’t getting up to the ball and we weren’t getting the second ball.

“Tonbridge deserved to win. Some of the football they were playing is what we are coached to play. It is the first game, as a whole, we’ve been absolutely turned over from minute one.

“If any player comes off and thinks they have done alright, that’s not acceptable. I know what the gaffer and coaching team are like, they are not going to accept that.

“As a group we have got to stick together. We’re seven games in with one win – we expect to be top seven.

“We have got a week to train and dissect that. Next Saturday is the biggest game of some of our careers. If you don’t put in a performance, we all know what football is like.”
