Welling United new boy tipped for big things

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Welling United boss Steve King reckons that the National League South outfit have bagged a player with huge potential in the shape of Zack Newton.

The new Wings chief made the Worthing attacker one of his first additions after taking charge at Park View Road.

King said: “I think he has got a hell of a chance to go higher.

“He’s only 20 years old and is very, very quick – he can run 100 metres in 11 seconds.

“He plays on the shoulder of people and is only five-foot five or five-foot six. He is direct and can play out wide or down the middle. I’m excited about him. Obviously he hasn’t played the level but he came into football very late, he didn’t start until 16 or 17.

“I’ve sold 28 players in my career – probably the most in non-league and worth between £60-70million. I have got the eye and I know he has got the capabilities and tools to go on.”
