Will Nightingale seeking AFC Wimbledon improvement after they clinch League One spot for next season
BY KAI BENNETT
Will Nightingale is delighted that AFC Wimbledon are staying up – but insists there is work to be done to improve for next season.
Despite the Dons’ 3-1 defeat against Portsmouth today, results elsewhere meant that they will be playing League One football next season.
Nightingale told the club’s official website: “I’m over the moon. We knew that we wanted to stay up, first and foremost, but all of us including Robbo are disappointed with how we’ve done it. We went six unbeaten before today, we have done brilliantly to get here and we wanted to go the rest of the season unbeaten.
“We set ourselves high standards and that’s how we are going to get better and that’s what we will do, we will get better.
“Everyone wants to be fighting for the top spots, we want to be doing what Portsmouth are doing. To do that, we can’t be happy after today’s loss.
“We have to continue to set our standards high.
“That’s what they deserve [the fans coming back to Plough Lane with AFC Wimbledon as a League One team], that’s the thing they deserve even more than that. They deserve to watch good football and that’s what we are striving for.
“Robbo wants to get the fans excited by what we’re doing, so that’s our aim and we are going to get better.”
