Dons hit by late winner after taking lead at Doncaster

AFC Wimbledon recorded an eighth league defeat in a row at Doncaster after conceding a late Tommy Rowe winner.
The Dons took the lead through Mitch Pinnock’s first league goal for the club in the 25th minute – and his second overall – but Rovers’ Ali Crawford struck back 10 minutes later.
The visitors to the Keepmoat Stadium hung on until the final minutes against the play-off contenders but Tommy Rowe’s goal took the points.
It had looked good when Kwesi Appiah surged into the area and fed Pinnock, who skilled around his marker and fired into the far corner for the opener.
But then Crawford’s speculative low shot from outside the area took a vicious deflection and curled into the very top corner, leaving Joe McDonell completely stranded.
But the Dons reacted slowly in the 87th minute when Rowe latched onto a quickly-taken freekick and weaved through two challenges before drilling into the bottom corner for the winner.
The result left caretaker boss Simon Bassey’s side seven points adrift of Gillingham, in the last safe spot, after 19 games played.
