Wimbledon captain makes National League free transfer switch
AFC Wimbledon captain Alex Woodyard has joined National League side York City on a free transfer after his Wimbledon contract was mutually terminated.
Woodyard, 30, made 123 appearances for the South Londoners after joining under Glyn Hodges from Peterborough in 2020.
The Dons have signed Armani Little, Jake Reeves and James Ball in the central midfield positions this summer.
Woodyard told York City’s Website: “It was a fairly easy decision.
“The club looks like it’s really going in the right direction and it will be a great time to get on board.
“I’ve won this league before with Lincoln City and I know what it takes to be successful at this level. I feel my experience can bring a lot to the side.”
Craig Cope told Wimbledon’s website: “Alex has given his all for the cause over the past few seasons as captain of the Club and he embarks on the next stage of his career with our very best wishes. We thank him for his service to AFC Wimbledon.”
