Wimbledon defender set for sideline spell after injury in Salford defeat
AFC Wimbledon are set to be without key defender Joe Lewis for between three to four weeks with the injury he picked up in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Salford, the South London Press understands.
Dons boss Johnnie Jackson called the challenge by Salford attacker Kelly N’Mai on Lewis ‘reckless and dangerous’.
Welsh defender Lewis was forced off in the 55th minute, with midfielder James Ball coming on.
Lewis has been an integral part of Wimbledon’s defence since initially joining on loan from Stockport at the start of the 2023-24 season.
The 25-year-old saw his loan move made permanent last January, with the Dons shelling out a six-figure fee to land the centre-back.
Lewis captained Wimbledon in their third round EFL Cup clash at Premier League side Newcastle and impressed.
Wimbledon first-team coach Dave Reddington told the club that centre-back duo Ryan Johnson and John-Joe O’Toole both took part in some form of training on Monday.
Jackson’s side host Carlisle on Saturday.
