Women’s football round-up: Charlton still winless in FA Women’s Championship – Eagles pick up point at London City Lionesses
All four goals came in a 10-minute second-half spell.
The Addicks are still winless in the league but took the lead as Lily Woodham breezed past a number of defenders to open the scoring in the 47th minute.
Leicester levelled four minutes later as Paige Bailey-Gayle shot across Katie Startup.
Former Charlton midfielder Charlie Devlin slotted home from the penalty spot. Charley Clifford then rifled home from 12 yards.
The result sees Charlton still winless this campaign and on seven points in last place, while Leicester sit sixth on 15 points.
The two sides rarely threatened during the first half but Jenna Legg came closest for the visitors as her sliding effort was cleared off the line.
The hosts had strong claims for a penalty when Ella Rutherford went down under pressure in the area, but referee Melissa Burgin waved away the appeals.
Crystal Palace Ladies drew 1-1 at London City Lionesses.
The Eagles fell behind in the first minute as Annie Rossiter’s deflected shot beat keeper Lucy Gillett.
Palace made it 1-1 just before the interval as Charelle Khasaal flicked the ball back to captain Ashleigh Goddard, who beat Lionesses stopper Lucy Thomas.
Eagles head coach Dean Davenport said: “It was disappointing to go a goal down so early but I knew the girls would rally.
“We thoroughly deserved our equaliser – we were on top at that time. To go level made the half-time team talk a lot better.
“After going behind it was just about believing in what we’re doing. We saw that the girls really believed in what they were doing, so I’m fairly happy.
“I told the girls at half time to do more of the same, with a little bit more aggression and quality. I’m a little bit disappointed that we didn’t go on and win the game, because we shaded the match, but we’ll take it.”
