‘Would be a gross understatement’- Roy Hodgson on Crystal Palace’s winning run

Roy Hodgson says it would be a ‘gross understatement’ to say he was happy with Crystal Palace’s last two results.

The Eagles have won three on the bounce since the 75-year-old – who replaced Patrick Vieira on a deal until the end of the season – returned to the club.

Eberechi Eze’s second-half brace saw the Eagles beat bottom-of-the-table Southampton 2-0 on Saturday. Palace thrashed Leeds 5-1 last weekend and beat Leicester 2-1 in Hodgson’s first game in charge.

Palace have now won three in a row in the top flight for the first time since March 2020.

“You feel more comfortable with every point you get,” said Hodgson.

“We’re inching towards a total which we think will be enough for us to stay in the league.

“We haven’t reached it yet. Leicester was probably the one game where we didn’t feel that much under threat. They defended well, but they didn’t threaten us in the same way. We dominated that from start to finish.

“We knew Leeds would be a tough ask. And we knew that with Southampton.

“To come away with six points [from the last two], to say I’m happy with that, would be a gross understatement.

“But I would still like to see us get some more points and see this team continue in the way it’s capable of playing.

“It’s been a tough season for the club and these players, so it would be nice if they got some joy themselves in these last couple of games.”
