‘Wouldn’t be averse to it’ – Ex-Crystal Palace chief on potential appointment of former Chelsea and Brighton boss

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has said that he would not be averse to the Eagles appointing Graham Potter as permanent manager this summer.

The South Londoners are currently without a manager heading into next season after Roy Hodgson’s 10-game stint came to an end on Sunday.

Our paper understands that the club are set to ask Hodgson to stay on beyond this summer.

Potter, who was in charge of arch-rivals Brighton from May 2019 to September 2022, was sacked by Chelsea in April.

“He would be a fit,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“There is no doubt that he is a progressive manager. We have to step out of the Chelsea situation and look at the body of work he did at Brighton.

“Up until the point he steps through the doors at Stamford Bridge, everyone is waxing lyrical about what a great manager he is.

“That hasn’t changed. He’s just perhaps not a great manager of great players at this moment of time in his career.

“This guy is an established Premier League manager. The basis of what De Zerbi was able to bounce off was built by Graham Potter.

“There is no reason why Potter going into Palace isn’t a sensible, progressive evolution of that football club.

“I wouldn’t be averse to it. There are good players at Palace. Players who are good on the ball, like Eze and Wilfried Zaha and a few others you can think of.

“There is a good nucleus of a squad there. I don’t think it’s a bad fit. If they were to go down that route, I wouldn’t be sitting there and going: ‘We have got a failure from Chelsea.’

“Potter has come unstuck by a whole change of ownership and a conceptual style of thinking which isn’t the easiest environment to work in.

“He didn’t cover himself in glory. Potter could rebuild and benefit Crystal Palace.”
