The Sing Space welcomes new members to Wimbledon Park Choir

Rachel Lynes wants to teach the world to sing.

Having played leading roles in the West End for ten years, she is responsible for a sell-out musical theatre choir in Wimbledon.

The mum of four started the initiative through her company, The Sing Space.

Rachel, who has also played singing coach to the stars, said: “We are now welcoming new members into our Wimbledon Park choir for September”.

The song book will consist of big musical numbers from Les Misérables, Wicked, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera and Hairspray.

Choir members will also learn singing technique.

Rachel said: “We will be spending most of the session learning the best show tunes in harmony. I’ll also be giving you tips to get the most out of your voices, including breathing, resonance, posture and range.”

Everyone involved will perform at the 1,000 seater Cadogan Hall in London, alongside some of the biggest names in the West End, as part of an event raising money for mental health.

Rachel is now taking things nationwide, with around 20 choirs set to open in areas as diverse as Bolton, Bury, Exeter, Lewes, Milton Keynes and York by the end of the year. Each will be run by a local singing coach.

At the same time, she is appealing for new blood at the Wimbledon chorale, whose first get-together of the new season is on September 19th at 7.45pm, Wimbledon Park Hall on Arthur Road.

She said: “Singing is so good for mental health. I love being part of something that can bring so much joy to people. At Sing Space we coach everyone from Olivier Award winning West End performers to very nervous beginners.”

With an emphasis on inclusion and the ambition to proliferate all over the UK, Rachel’s dream of perfect harmony is coming to fruition.
