Two women arrested on suspicion of terrorism offenses
Two women have been arrested on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation, believed to be Hamas, at a pro-Palestine march earlier this month.
The suspects, aged 29 and 44, handed themselves in to a South London police station yesterday after they recognised themselves in the Met’s counter terrorism appeal pictures.
The women were arrested on suspicion of inviting support for a proscribed organisation – believed to be Hamas – and are currently being held in custody at a police station in West London.
The Met still want to identify a third woman, seen in social media footage with an image of a paraglider on her top at a pro-Palestine protest in Whitehall, Westminster, on October 14.
The image may be a reference to the Hamas attack on Israel in which motorised paragliders were used to storm a music festival on October 7, murdering 260 people.
Police are also looking for a man seen waving a placard that read, “I fully support Hamas”, during a protest in Bond Street, Mayfair, on October 21.
The October 14 and 21 protests were organised to demand an end to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza that has followed the terror attack by Hamas.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s counter terrorism command, said: “My officers are working night and day with our colleagues across the country to investigate suspected terrorism offences committed in the real world and online.
“I am grateful to the public who have reported information to us and I urge anyone who has information about the man and woman we are still seeking to please let us know. If the people in the pictures recognise themselves, I urge them to come forward so we can speak with them.
“Anyone who knows who these people are or has information that could help the investigation is asked to please report it in confidence online at gov.uk/ACT or by calling 0800 789 321.”
