Warbo: We defend as a team, attack as a team

Mark Warburton says QPR need to defend better as a team and not go in for the blame game for the goals they are conceding.

The Hoops have yet to keep a clean sheet and shipped two more goals in surrendering points to lowly Middlesbrough on Saturday in a 2-2 draw.

An error from Nahki Wells cost them the win and they have slipped down to 10th, four points adrift of the top six. But Warburton, pictured left, insists he is looking at collective responsibility rather than seeking to blame individual errors.

“We defend as a team,” said the Rangers boss. “ It’s easy to sit in the stand and [point to] the centre half or the right back. But it’s a collective and it’s not about the defender.

“As a team we’ve got to be better. As we saw at Leeds last week, if you miss a two v one duel in the middle of the park then they get a chance.

“The chance doesn’t happen if you win that duel. We defend as a team and attack as a team. It’s about us being clinical as a squad of players.

should be higher but we’re doing all right. We are a team that’s evolving and developing.”

“ If I’d said to you on August 1 we’d be sitting on the edge of the play-offs, frustrated at dropping a lot of points, what would you have said? We keep expectations positive.”

Rangers have the week off because of the international break and are back in action next Friday night at Fulham in an eagerly-anticipated derby.

Meanwhile, QPR’s visit to Brentford has been selected for Sky Sports coverage on January 11. The game will kick off at 12.30pm.

The sides recently met at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, with the Bees running out 3-1 winners.
