Whistle Punk Urban Axe Throwing in Vauxhall

An events company is raising the bar on singles nights to bring you a dicing-with-death dating experience.

My Friend Charlie, specialists in quirky dating events, is bringing its second instalment of amorous axe wielding to Whistle Punk in Vauxhall after the last one proved a resounding success.

Trained instructors will be teaching people how to handle an axe safely and aspiring lumberjacks will be placed in groups and compete in mini tournaments.

The axes will then be put safely away as the beer comes out and the group moves on to the Fentiman Arms for a complimentary drink.

My Friend Charlie dating events are targeted at people in their late 20s to 40s.It aims to bypass
awkward first date conversations by getting people involved in fun activities.

Company founder Charlie Spokes said: “Last time we did it it was pretty raucous.

“It was really fun but we had a waiting list of about 15 people so we are doing another one.

“I think it will probably become quite a regular event for us. It is pretty quirky and one that people tend to enjoy.”

Charlie set up the company last year because she and friends became tired of app-based dating.
She said: “We get matches because people are doing something they enjoy and it automatically gives them something in common.

“It takes away the date-y side of things. People are just having fun.”

Plaid shirts are heavily encouraged on the night.
