93-year-old victim named in Catford care home murder
An elderly woman who was murdered at her care home in Catford has been named as 93-year-old Eileen Dean.
Police and the London Ambulance Service were called at around 12.40am on Monday, January 4, to a report of an assault at a care home in Canadian Avenue, Catford.
Mrs Dean was taken to hospital where she later died.
The same day, a man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a south London police station.
Alexander Rawson, 62, of Canadian Avenue, Catford was charged with murder and appeared in custody at Bexleyheath Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 5.
He was remanded in custody to appeared at the Old Bailey on the afternoon the following Thursday, January 7.
A post-mortem examination of the victim also commenced on that afternoon at Greenwich Mortuary.
Both Mrs Dean and Rawson were residents of the care home.
Mrs Dean’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
