Blackheath resident Terry Macey is part of an elite club – ‘The Ever Presents’ – a group of 10 runners who have run every single London Marathon since the first edition of the race, held back in 1981.

History-maker Terry reveals exclusively to the South London Press, some of his favourite running routes around South London.

Sun-in-the-Sands Roundabout – Shooters Hill Road – Blackheath – Greenwich Park – River Thames (5 miles round-trip)

“I’ve been running around the park and the heath since 1976 and I’m still doing it. I run down to the River Thames and through the park.”

Blackheath – Greenwich Foot Tunnel – Isle of Dogs (8 mile round trip)

“I like to run underneath the River Thames, in the Greenwich Foot Tunnel. You get to the Isle of Dogs and then you can run along the side of the canals and docks. It’s absolutely terrific.”

Shooters Hill Road (Blackheath end) – Oxleas Wood – Woolwich Common (6 mile round trip + run in wood)

“Shooters Hill and Oxleas Wood are such brilliant resources and they are close by me. I run to the woods and back across Woolwich Common.”

Blackheath-Shooters Hill Road – Plumstead Common – Bostall Heath and Woods – Abbey Wood (16 mile round trip)

“Then there’s the Green Chain Walk, which was usually our long run. I can almost run from my place in Blackheath to Abbey Wood on soft ground, going across Plumstead Common over up to Bostall Woods, and then down to Abbey Wood. That’s around a 16-17 mile run there and back.”

Gumshield Gym Eltham – Avery Hill Park – Eltham Park South – Oxleas Wood – Falconwood Field (5 miles round trip)

“I run this at weekends with the boxers. We do it as a warm-up before training in the gym.”

Shooters Hill Road – Woolwich Common – Woolwich Town Centre – Charlton Park – The Standard (5 miles)

“A run taking in Woolwich Town Centre, past the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Charlton cemetery.”
