Police appeal for witnesses after three teenagers attacked with machete and baseball bat in Peckham

Two teenage boys and a woman were injured in an attack involving large group of young people with “a baseball bat and machete” in Peckham last weekend.

At around 8.30pm last Saturday, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Oakdene Estate, Carlton Grove, Peckham, where a 17-year-old boy was found suffering stab injuries.

One witness who saw the attack but wished to not be named said the 17-year-old male was slashed with the machete across his back and ankle and required surgery and blood transfusions.

The witness said the 17 -year-old was trying to protect the 15-year-old and an 18-year-old woman was knocked unconscious at least once in the attack on the three, carried out by “more than 10 white boys”.

The 17-year-old is believed to have fled over nearby fences until he was rescued by neighbours. He was taken to hospital and his injuries were deemed to be not life-threatening.

The 18-year-old woman was also taken to hospital after she was assaulted and suffered facial injuries along with the 15-year-old, who sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Detective Constable Jon Wormwald, from the Central South BCU, said: “This was a case of senseless and wanton violence which has no place in the community. We believe this incident involved a significant number of young people who fled the scene in varying directions.

“If you were in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, we need to hear from you.

“Given that it happened in a residential area I am confident that a number of people may have witnessed this incident.

“I would ask anyone with any information that may assist the investigation and identify those responsible for the attack to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

A 17 year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of GBH and has been bailed until a date in late November.
