This Millwall key man deserves shot at making his country’s World Cup squad

Neil Harris reckons Australia boss Bert van Marwijk should be watching James Meredith – and will happily vouch for the qualities of the Millwall defender.
The left-back, signed from Bradford in the summer, has started every Championship match for the Lions. But despite stepping up a division he has yet to add to his two caps for the Socceroos.
“There has been no contact yet from them – but his form has been outstanding,” said Harris. “Yes, James can improve in certain areas – but all players can.
“Steve Morison can still improve and Timmy Cahill has been improving since he has been back with us. James, at 29, is no different.
“He is getting better on the ball all the time. Should he [Van Marwijk] be looking at James for his World Cup squad? I’d say 100 per cent he should.
“It is not just about his performances but also his mentality as well.
“When you go to tournaments you need a winning mentality and players who are great in the group.
“Players have to have that burning desire to win and James has it in abundance.
“If I get the chance to speak to the national coach then I will certainly be putting his name forward, as I have done in the past with other players.
“With Timmy in our squad now, and looking as good as he does, the focus [from Australia] will be on us.
“That means naturally there will be the spotlight on James as well.
“I’d be ecstatic if both players got the chance to go.”
