London boroughs with the highest rape case numbers

By Rebecca Spencer

There has been little let-up in the number of brutal rapes by predatory monsters on the streets of South London, despite the restrictions of lockdown limiting the number of days people were allowed out.

Croydon and Lambeth had the highest reported incidents of rape in 2020 from January to November of all London boroughs, according to new government data.

Croydon was the worst London borough with 419 reported rapes, and Lambeth had the next worst record with 368.

These figures have dropped slightly from the same period in 2019, where Croydon had 448 reported rapes and Lambeth had 399.

The government data was not broken down into domestic rape and street rape, so it is unclear whether the lockdowns experienced over 2020 caused the decrease in these figures.

Most South London boroughs experienced a drop in reported rapes from January to November of 2019 to the same period in 2020, but Kensington and Chelsea experienced a 12.8 per cent rise in reported rapes.

The victim had been drinking in a nightclub in east London before she arrived in the Embankment area and encountered Warikwah in the early hours of Easter Monday on April 22, 2019.

Warikwah worked as a security patrol manager for contractor Securitas and was patrolling areas of central London between 7pm on April 21 and 7am on April 22 last year. This included the car park in Belgravia where the victim was raped.

During her ordeal, the Victim managed to send messages to a friend. She wrote: “I’ve been raped. I feel sick. This taxi won’t take me home.”

A potential rape victim ensuring her attacker was convicted after she bit and scratched him so he could be identified.

Cops were also able to track his Tube journey home on CCTV footage.

Police used DNA from under her fingernails to help convict Khaled Argoub.

Desmond Atumkeze, 23, asked ‘Do you have a boyfriend?’ as he assaulted his 30-year-old victim, who had been on her way home, by the canal in Thamesmead.

He told her he had a gun, and that he would kill her if she did not comply with his demands. Warning her against contacting the police, he said: “I’m local, I know your face, I know where you live.”

The victim had got off a bus and had been taking a shortcut across a basketball court in Gallions Park when Atumkeze threatened her and marched her towards a concrete clearing near a canal at around 8.45pm on November 8, 2019.

She thought she was going to choke to death in the attack but he still put his hand over her mouth in a bid to stop her shouting for help.

The distinctive cap left at the scene, his DNA found under the victim’s fingernail and CCTV tracking helped to identify Argoub.

At Kingston Crown Court last Friday, Argoub was found guilty of two counts of attempted rape, three counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual assault by penetration, and attempting to choke with intent.

A man was jailed for more than 20 years after being convicted of multiple counts of rape of a single victim in one prolonged attack.

Mackey was previously found guilty of six counts of rape, two counts of fraud, one count of blackmail, one count of ABH and one count of theft.

The court heard that the victim was reported missing by her family on Friday, June 7 last year and, following police enquiries, was found the following day at a hotel in Richmond, west London.

She told police she had endured a prolonged assault at Mackey’s hands, as she was held against her will. During this time, she was raped and subjected to a physical assault, which left her with facial injuries.

She was raped in a nearby wooded area off Brockham Street.

The second was attacked only a few hundred yards away in Borough High Street.

Marodza was arrested that same day at his home address in Kingston Road, Eastbourne.
