Brain tumour charity raises over £100k

By Jacob Paul

A brain tumour charity has raised over £100,000 in funding for new hospital equipment and a garden for patients and their families to help with the recovery process.

The John King Brain Tumour Foundation raised over £100,000 in 2020 through their team Kilimanjaro Challenge, an evening with Henry Marsh CBE and Dr Rachel Clarke, online donations and their virtual event “Gala In Your Parlour” in October.

The funds will go towards planning for a garden for Neurological ICU patients and staff to relax, exercise and spend time with their families at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

Maintenance of the roof garden adjacent to the McKissock Ward will also be carried out, which during the height of the pandemic became a place where staff deployed to the Covid ICU could get some fresh air.

Money raised by the charity has previously gone towards the equipment for the paediatric neurosurgery team, and a state-of-the-art microscope for the Neurosurgical team.

The charity is asking people to consider regular monthly donations to help for the future.
