Football fans and locals could get tickets to major matches for getting the Covid jab this weekend

Football fans and locals are being invited to a special Covid-19 mass vaccination event at The Den, home of Millwall Football Club, this Saturday.

Millwall FC is also offering everyone who gets vaccinated the chance to win two stadium tour tickets.

From 8am to 8pm, the Pfizer vaccine will be on offer at the stadium for everyone aged 18 and over.

Second doses will also be available if it has been at least eight weeks since the first jab was given.

South Londoners booking or getting their first jab between Tuesday 6 and Thursday 8 July can enter a ticket draw for an invitation to the Euro final at Wembley and 50 tickets to watch the final in Trafalgar Square.

A 2021/22 adult membership and two tickets to watch Sunday’s EURO 2020 final at The Den’s SE16 Bus Bar should England progress.

Southwark and Lewisham Councils, Millwall Football Club and NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group have teamed up to turn The Den into a mass vaccination centre to help get as many people protected against Covid-19 as possible.

Dr Nancy Küchemann, GP and Governing Body Member/Chair NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Although most younger adults are at less risk of serious illness with Covid-19 it is still important that they get have the vaccine to protect their friends and family as well as themselves.

“With cases rising and restrictions being lifted, getting vaccinated will help us all return to our normal lives.”

Cllr Evelyn Akoto, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Southwark Council, said: “With rates of Covid-19 rising again, especially among younger adults, we need to tackle the virus head on with our best protection – the vaccine.

“We’re calling on everyone over 18 from Southwark and beyond to put in a strong defensive play by booking themselves a vaccination slot at The Den this Saturday.

“Pfizer will be on offer, both first and second doses which we know give much better protection against Covid-19 than just the one.”

Dr Catherine Mbema, Director of Public Health at Lewisham Council, said: “Each day as more people are vaccinated, we reduce the risk the virus poses to ourselves, our loved ones and the most vulnerable in our community.

“We know some people may want to access further information on COVID-19 vaccination before coming along on Saturday, so we have a number of resources available for you to do this via www.nhsselondonvaccinefacts.com.

“In Lewisham we also have a confidential call back service for those working and living in the borough who want to talk through any specific vaccine questions with a health professional. This can be accessed by going to https://modality.simplybook.it/v2/ or calling 07828 499044 (WhatsApp: 07376 810219).”

To book a vaccination slot, register on Eventbrite at https://bit.ly/millfcvax – walk-ins will also be available on the day.
